Assistant Provost for Strategic Initiatives – Santa Clara University
Missy became involved with SCCT in 2017 when her son was cast in his first SCCT musical at Clifford Elementary School. Her daughter joined in 2018, and they’ve been a theater family ever since. As a parent volunteer, Missy found her stride as a stage manager and later a producer (and the sets team was probably glad to be rid of her!). Missy is grateful for the wide range of theater experiences available to youth through SCCT and the amazing growth opportunities her children have had. The McAlexander kids have participated in numerous SCCT mainstage productions as actors and tech crew, and they’ve both returned to Clifford as Junior Assistant Directors. Missy joined the SCCT board in 2022 to help make these fabulous personal development opportunities available to more youth in the future.

Customer Experience & Trust – Upwork
Brandon grew up performing in local children’s theater productions and eagerly joined the Board of Directors in 2016 to help expand the reach and the mission of SCCT. As a San Carlos resident and father of three young children, Brandon is passionate about our community and supporting the people and organizations who enrich it; and as a former “theater kid,” Brandon knows, first-hand, the value of the friendships, discipline and inclusivity promoted through theater arts. Many of the skills learned in theatre have translated to Brandon’s current work in leadership, product management and technology.
Karen Vega
Vice President
She/Her/Hers
Real Estate Broker – Real Smart Properties
Karen Vega was introduced to SCCT in 2010 when her daughter performed in her first production. A principal partner of RealSmart Group, Karen is a natural leader and has worked as the producer on dozens of mainstage productions and joint SCCT-Roy Cloud school shows. Appreciative of the valuable lessons and experiences her daughter gained through SCCT, Karen joined the Board of Directors in 2014 to give back to the theater and help more children enjoy the wonders of performing.
Kristina Harvey
Secretary
She/Her/Hers
Teacher – Sequoia Parents Nursery School
Kristina didn’t know it at the time but, when she signed up her kindergartener –newly enamored with theater after seeing SCCT’s Honk Jr summer musical– for an after school acting class, she was jumping down a rabbit hole to what would become a wonderland for the whole family. As their daughter signed up for ever more classes, camps, plays, musicals, tech crew jobs and youth leadership roles, Kristina and her husband became active SCCT parent volunteers (and, one of us, community show performer!). As a volunteer, Kristina loves supporting the brilliant costume team, working backstage, parent producing and, of course, selling cookies! Her gratitude for the positive, inclusive, confidence-building environment SCCT creates and the way it helps kids grow as performers, leaders and human beings, inspired Kristina to join the board and accept the Secretary position in 2024.
Professionally, Kristina works mentoring parents and teaching the 3s/4s and Pre-K classes at Sequoia Parents Nursery School, a play-based & parent education focused co-op preschool in San Carlos.

Director, Training / Inclusion & Belonging – Orrick
Angie attended her first SCCT show to support a family friend in the Fall of 2021. Her daughter loved the production and auditioned for the Spring 2022 play, and they both fell in love with SCCT’s warm, welcoming and supportive community. They have been involved with every main stage production since then. After serving as a parent volunteer and witnessing the positive impact of the SCCT experience on her own daughter, Angie was inspired to join the Board in 2023 to support SCCT’s work – including providing our youth with opportunities to develop their confidence and skills, build relationships, collaborate, adapt, evolve, and become leaders in our community. When she isn’t moonlighting as a hair and make-up chair, choreographer, or producer, Angie can be found rooting for her daughters on the softball field. She spends her days providing professional development opportunities to lawyers and creating a culture of belonging at her firm.
Debbie Fowler
President Emeritus
Debbie served on the Board from 2001-2016, filling the role as President for ten years. She has been an enthusiastic supporter since she and her two children saw their first SCCT production in 1998. As a children’s theater performer herself and as a music teacher, she knows first-hand the value of the arts in a child’s life, and in particular how the confidence gained during a production translates to all aspects of life. Debbie is addicted to the sense of community that is SCCT and will continue to be seen at performances and events, as well as helping behind the scenes wherever she is needed.

She/Her/Hers
Product Marketing Consultant
Tina became involved with the San Carlos Children’s Theater initially as an audience member and then more actively as a parent volunteer when her daughter performed in her first of many productions in 2019. Now she joins the SCCT board to support the programs that her family has enjoyed so much. She loves the strong, supportive community that the theater fosters, and believes that the skills SCCT teaches extend beyond each production into everyday life – skills like creativity, adaptability, and resilience. During the day, Tina provides strategic marketing services to Bay Area technology companies.

He/Him/His
Chief Product Officer – Hearsay Systems
Alex joined the SCCT community when his daughter attended her first two-week summer camp program pre-pandemic and saw her immediately latch on to what has become her driving passion. That incredible initial experience led to more plays, musicals, workshops, tech crew roles, and voice lessons! The positive environment and leadership that SCCT fosters for kids drew Alex into several parent volunteer roles. Watching kids go from nervous and tentative to proud and delighted by what they’ve achieved continues to inspire him. Alex joined the board in 2024 to help ensure that SCCT is here for children for years and years to come. When not building sets, hanging proscenium flats, or working backstage, Alex spends his days leading enterprise software product teams and, whenever possible, traveling the world.

Vice President, Analytics – ServiceNow
Sarah moved to San Carlos in 2016 and started taking her kids, preschoolers at the time, to watch 2-3 SCCT productions every year. The kids loved watching the older kids perform and racking up autographs. During elementary school, her kids did several summer camps and classes. Since 2023, Sarah’s family has been involved in almost every production SCCT has – her younger son as an actor, her older son as tech crew, and Sarah doing multiple parent volunteer roles, most frequently as a stage manager. More recently, Sarah’s younger son has pursued several leadership development opportunities through SCCT, as a Junior Assistant Director, a member of the Youth Advisory Board, and a class aide. And Sarah has decided to join her son on stage for the Community production of Mary Poppins, which has been incredibly rewarding and has given her a deeper appreciation into how much goes into putting a production together! SCCT has inspired us to accomplish things we never thought ourselves capable of and has connected us into a wonderful supportive community. In 2025, Sarah joined the SCCT board to help ensure that future generations can benefit from everything SCCT has to offer!
Carolyn Bierman

She/Her/Hers
Music Instructor – San Carlos Charter Learning Center
Carolyn first became involved with SCCT in 2023 when her youngest joined a winter camp, and the whole family quickly joined the fray. The two Bierman children have participated in many SCCT mainstage productions as both actors and as tech crew. Carolyn’s favorite role as a parent volunteer is as a stage manager, where she can combine her love of project management with her love of working with kids. She joined the SCCT Board in 2024 after seeing the intense positive impact SCCT has had on her own children and their friends. During the day, Carolyn teaches music to Kindergarten through 3rd grade students at San Carlos Charter Learning Center, hopefully encouraging some future SCCT stars!

Language Arts Division Lecturer – College of San Mateo
After decades spent amassing fame and fortune on the rodeo clown circuit, Sarah settled down in San Carlos in 2011. She began volunteering with San Carlos Children’s Theater in 2022 when her daughter was bitten by a radioactive llama which gave her superpowers — and by the acting bug. As a parent, Sarah is deeply grateful for the supportive and inclusive environment that SCCT provides to children, particularly those grappling with llama-themed superpowers. Sarah was inspired to join the SCCT board in 2025 when she learned about their secret underground volcano lair and all-you-can-swirl frozen yogurt station. In addition to her work on the board and as a writing instructor at College of San Mateo, Sarah is best known as the author of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Breakdancing, The Complete Idiot’s Guide Breakdancing II: What To Do Now That You’ve Broken the Dancing, and the SCCT fall 2025 play Goblin Walk Follies.
